Transportation, Hotel and Area

The May 2016 meeting will be held at the Marriott Newport News at City Center in Newport News, Virginia. Newport News City Center is a mixed-use development with restaurants, shops and entertainment establishments all within walking distance of the hotel, and just a short 15 minute ride from the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. The hotel is also just 15 minutes from NASA Langley Research Center where classified sessions will be held.

UPDATED 28 April 2016:
The Newport News Marriott at City Center is no longer taking reservations in the JANNAF discounted room blocks. We have arranged for discounted rooms at $89 per night for JANNAF attendees at the Courtyard Newport News Yorktown, located three miles from the Marriott at City Center. The Courtyard Newport News Yorktown will provide limited shuttle transportation for JANNAF attendees between the Courtyard and Marriott at City Center on a pre-set schedule.

Each individual is responsible for his/her own reservation. Reservations may be made either online or by phone. If you are a Marriott Rewards member, you can still earn rewards for your stay when reserving your room in the JANNAF block!

Newport News is located in the Tidewater region of Virginia. In addition to being near NASA Langley Research Center, other nearby points of interest include the waterfront city of Norfolk, historic Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach. Transportation

DoD employees must follow specific travel guidelines/restrictions as posted on the meeting website, with respect to which of the area airports should be used, as well as restrictions regarding use of personal vehicles or rental cars.

Three airports serve the area, listed in order by distance from the hotel:

  • Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (15 minute drive)
  • Norfolk International Airport (30-60 minutes drive, depending on traffic)
  • Richmond International Airport (one hour drive)

The Newport News Marriott at City Center does not offer airport shuttle service. The Courtyard Newport News Yorktown does offer an airport shuttle for guests staying there. Reservations are required. Information can be found on the reservation page; link provided above.

Ground transportation costs range from approximately $17 for a taxi from the Newport News/Williamsburg airport to over $100 for a taxi or shuttle from the Richmond airport. More information can be found on the airports’ websites. If attending classified sessions at NASA Langley Research Center, attendees will need to drive; carpooling with other attendees is strongly encouraged due to limited parking.

Amtrak has a station in Newport News, just five miles / 15 minutes from the Newport News Marriott at City Center. A taxi between the train station and the hotel will cost approximately $16.
